About The Feline Patient
The Feline Patient, Sixth Edition is a comprehensive, practical reference dedicated to the feline-specific diagnosis and management of common and complex medical conditions. Organized for ease of use, it features concise, clinically focused chapters designed to support efficient, evidence-based decision-making in everyday practice. Covering a broad spectrum of topics, it serves as an indispensable guide for small animal and feline-focused veterinarians in general and emergency settings, as well as for veterinary students.
Fully revised to reflect the latest advances in feline medicine, this edition includes significant updates on feline infectious peritonitis (FIP), kidney disease, urinary tract disorders, imaging, pain management, and anesthetic and emergency protocols. New and expanded chapters address emerging areas such as complementary and alternative therapies, triage and stabilization, rehabilitation, and cats in laboratory animal science. A reorganized layout improves navigation, while full-color images, advanced diagnostic guidance, and a companion website with videos and downloadable client handouts enhance its value as a trusted, modern clinical resource.
About the Lead Editor, Dr. Lisa Durso-Keel
Feline medicine is truly my calling. I have always been drawn to cats — their quiet strength, their complexity, and the trust they place in us when they are at their most vulnerable. They deserve thoughtful, cat-centered care tailored to their unique needs.
I have a special interest in challenging feline diseases such as stomatitis, chronic kidney disease, and feline infectious peritonitis. These conditions can be overwhelming for families and veterinarians alike, and I am deeply committed to advancing treatment options and improving quality of life. That commitment is why I have brought feline-focused clinical trials to Cooke Veterinary Medical Center — to help expand possibilities for our patients and contribute to the future of feline medicine.
I also strongly believe in partnership. Supporting and collaborating with surrounding veterinarians is incredibly important to me. Together, we can combine our knowledge, experience, and compassion to provide the very best care for our feline patients.
It is an honor to serve as the lead editor of The Feline Patient, 6th Edition, and to continue advocating for excellence in feline medicine.
